Zhang Qualifies Into the Fourth Round & Latest on Raonic, Ferrer & Wawrinka


The latest updates from the Australian Open on Saturday include Chinese player Shang Shuai’s unexpected run that continues in Australia, as she went on to win her third main draw match at Melbourne Park, defeating Varvara Lepchenko from America to reach the fourth round. After defeating number 2 ranked Simona Halep in the second round Zhang now faces Madison Keys, currently ranked number 15, for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Andy Murray is through to the 16th round after defeating Joao Sousa from Portugal, second seeded Murray converted six of nine breakpoints and served 13 aces in his victory, he won all seven times he and Sousa played including the 2013 and 2015 Australian Opens. Murray is striving to become the first man to win a Grand Slam after losing in four finals in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

For the sixth consecutive year David Ferrer is back in the 16th round of the Australian Open and as the 8th seeded, the Spaniard ended Lleyton Hewitt’s career in the 2nd round on Saturday. Ferrer broke Johnsons four times in their match and never had to face a break point on his own serve, his next game is against yet another American player when he faces John Isner in the fourth round.

Victory over Lucas Rosal in the third round gave Stan Wawrinka victory in his 400th tour level match. It is the fourth year for Wawrinka in a row to make it to the 4th round at Melbourne Park. Last year he made it to the semi-finals and lost eventually to champion Novak Djokovic. Wawrinka now faces Milos Raonic in the fourth round match.

Milos Raonic dedicated his victory in the third round to the victims in the Canada shooting which left four people dead. Viktor Troicki a 25-year-old Canadian player said it was a difficult day back home.
