Federer Rolls into Quarterfinals at Australian Open

At the Australian Opens, third ranked Roger Federer ensured himself a relatively early night on the Rod Laver Arena, by beating David Goffin in a match of 1 hour and 28 minutes, finishing up shortly after midnight to advance to the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park. Federer, a four time Australian Open champion only got on court by 10:45 due to two late finishing matched and a delayed start to the night games. Federer will now face number 6th ranked Thomas Berdych in the quarterfinals.

Tomas Berdych defeated the number 29 ranked Nick Kyrgios to finish off Friday play on the Rod Laver Arena; the win advances him to the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the sixth consecutive year. Berdych reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2010 and the semi-finals at the last two Australian Open tournaments.

David Ferrer just reached the 16th round for the sixth consecutive year and is facing John Isner an American player in the next round.

Sunday play had several highlights including Nishikori now looking forward to face Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Agnieszka Radwanksa has advanced to the quarterfinals after victory over Anna –Lena Friedsman who suffered from severe cramping.

Tomas Berdych lasted longer than that of Roberto Bautista Agut during five sets to get to the quarterfinals for the 6th consecutive year. Ranked as number six, Berdych reached the semi-finals last year then lost to Murray. His next opponent was to be the winner of the match between David Goffin and Roger Federer, so after the almost one and a half hour match he can start looking forward to his match against Roger Federer who is currently ranked number 3. All eyes will be on this match to see if Thomas Berdych ranked number 6 could also outlast Federer in the quarter finals.
